After a tense third day in Kazakhstan, 9z and Spirit became the first teams to book their places in the PGL Astana 2026 playoffs at Barys Arena. The Swiss stage also pushed Aurora and Falcons closer to qualification, while K27’s run ended after a wild overtime loss. Read on for the full Day 3 recap.
9z made the loudest statement of Day 3, taking down MOUZ 2-1 and closing the Swiss stage with a clean 3-0 record. The series had everything: a tight Nuke win, a rough Inferno collapse, and a composed Ancient recovery after a slow start.
The result sent 9z straight to the quarterfinals after wins over PARIVISION, Team Falcons, and MOUZ in the same run.
Luciano “luchov” Herrera led 9z with a 49-42 K-D, 83.5 ADR, and a 1.20 rating, while Maximiliano “max” Gonzalez added a steady 37-34 and 1.13. For MOUZ, Dorian “xertioN” Berman posted 42-39 and a 1.24 rating, but 9z had the cleaner late rounds when it mattered.
max later said that 9z came to Astana to test themselves against elite opposition, adding that the tournament had given the team confidence that it could reach tier-one level. He also praised luchov, who ended the group stage with a 1.35 rating, as an “amazing player” and a vocal presence who helps shape calls in the server.
That chemistry was visible against MOUZ. 9z did not panic after a 13-4 beating on Inferno or after falling 5-0 down on Ancient. Instead, they tightened up on the CT side and forced MOUZ into uncomfortable late-round decisions. For a team still proving itself outside South America, this was the kind of win that changes how opponents prepare for them.
Team Spirit joined 9z in the playoff bracket after a tense 2-1 win over FURIA, sealing their return to Barys Arena in a series that never fully settled into one team’s control.
The win had extra weight for Spirit, who lifted a trophy in the same arena a little over a year ago.
Danil “donk” Kryshkovets was the difference-maker once more, finishing the series with 71-48 K-D, 101.5 ADR, 78.1% KAST, and a 1.49 rating. His Mirage performance stood out: 23 kills, 106 ADR, and a 1.58 rating in a scrappy final map. Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov followed with 42-36 K-D and a 1.07 rating.
FURIA had their chances, especially on Overpass, where Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo’s side built an 8-4 T-side lead and later closed the map 16-12 in overtime. It was their sharpest stretch of the series, driven by confident mid-round calls and strong individual output.
Their best numbers came from the usual damage dealers:
Still, the loss landed at an awkward time for FURIA. Mareks “YEKINDAR” Gaļinskis had already spoken about the team trying to find its identity again after a last-place finish at BLAST Rivals Fort Worth, and Astana has not offered easy answers yet. Now FURIA fall into the 2-1 pool, where Gentle Mates stand between them and a playoff spot.
Aurora Gaming kept their recovery on track with a 2-0 win over PARIVISION, moving into the 2-1 pool after a clean Anubis and a much tighter Dust2. The scoreline looked simple at first glance, but the second map needed overtime before Aurora finally shut the door.
Ismailcan “XANTARES” Dörtkardeş led the way with 47-34 K-D, 99.7 ADR, and a 1.47 rating, giving Aurora the firepower they needed in key rounds. Caner “soulfly” Kesici added 40-31 and a 1.35 rating, with several late Dust2 moments that helped swing the map.
Engin “MAJ3R” Küpeli’s point about consistency still fit the match. Aurora had strong spells, but Dust2 showed they are not fully clean yet.
Falcons also moved to 2-1 by beating Monte 2-0. The series was closer than expected, with Falcons winning Dust2 13-11 and Ancient 13-10. Nikola “NiKo” Kovač and Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov both finished with a 1.57 rating; NiKo recorded 40-27 K-D and 95.2 ADR, while m0NESY went 43-21 with 89.4 ADR.
magic stayed alive in Astana after a chaotic 2-0 win over K27, taking Mirage 13-9 before surviving a marathon Overpass that ended 22-19 after multiple overtimes. For K27, the loss closed their run at 0-3 and added more uncertainty with Petr “fame” Bolyshev set to return to Virtus.pro from loan.
The match was defined by one ridiculous individual showing:
tenzy’s entries and late-round impact kept breaking K27’s setups, especially on Overpass, where one more hold or clutch could have changed the whole map.
Day Four will decide the next playoff spots and cut more teams from Astana. The 2-1 pool is packed with pressure, and each match has a clear storyline:
The 1-2 pool looks even more brutal.
With 9z and Spirit already through, the rest of the field is fighting to keep Barys Arena within reach.
