Dust II: The Legendary Competitive Map in CS 2

Dust II: The Legendary Competitive Map in CS 2

Dust 2 is a map well-known to every Counter-Strike fan. Its core scenario revolves around the bomb-planting objective: the Terrorists must plant the bomb, while the Counter-Terrorists must prevent it.

In earlier versions, the map was set in Iraq. Now, its storyline takes place in Morocco.

Key Areas on Dust 2

Dust 2 features over 50 named locations, such as:

  • Bridge
  • Gap
  • Ramp
  • Stairs
  • Pit
  • Platform
  • Tunnel
  • Car
  • Mid
  • Catwalk, and more.

The most critical areas are the bomb sites, A and B.

  1. Site A is located on an elevated platform accessible via three paths: long (A long), CT spawn, or short (catwalk).
  2. Site B is a closed area reachable through the tunnel or mid doors. Alternatively, players cs2 can enter through a small window near the doors on the right.

Strategies for the T Side (Terrorists)

Much like in previous versions of Counter-Strike, Dust 2 in CS 2 retains its objectives. Terrorists can follow these guidelines for success:

  1. In pistol rounds, prioritize attacking Site B. By eliminating the defender there, you can plant the bomb before reinforcements arrive.
  2. If you win the pistol round, the enemy is likely to have an eco round or a force buy with minimal grenades. Opt for SMGs and engage in close combat to maximize your advantage.

Approaches to Bomb Planting

Site A:

  1. If pushing long, remember that the enemy may have a sniper. Counter this by sending your sniper ahead. If they secure the advantage, move out of cover and head toward the bomb site. Should the defenders be present, your sniper can provide reliable support.
  2. When attacking through catwalk, begin by throwing a smoke grenade into mid doors to block off enemy vision. Exercise caution, as opponents may be waiting in the lower tunnel. Deploy your sniper to scout the site, and if it's clear, plant the bomb and hold your positions for defense.

Tip: If you lose the pistol round, combine both strategies for a better chance at success.

Site B:

  1. Entering the tunnel, watch out for opponents approaching from the lower tunnel. Snipers often hold positions near the boxes at Site B. Let your sniper engage first, and if they eliminate the enemy, proceed with flashbangs and smoke grenades to clear the site.
  2. Alternatively, use the lower tunnel to push mid with a flashbang. Opponents often place snipers there, so throw a smoke toward CT spawn before advancing. Clear the site and plant the bomb.

Important: If you lose the first round, adapt by combining the outlined tactics.

Strategies for the CT Side (Counter-Terrorists)

In the pistol round, opt for armor or a few grenades. Armor is ideal against opponents with poor aim, while flashbangs can disrupt enemies on-site. Smoke grenades can stall rushes and buy time to prepare a proper defense.

Strategies for Specific Areas

Long:
Use AWP or AUG here for maximum effectiveness. Assault rifles work too, but snipers are preferable. Take positions that allow you to catch enemies off guard.

Catwalk (Short):

  • Close range: Position yourself near the stairs with an SMG.
  • Long range: Hold near Site A with an AWP or rifle.

Mid:
Avoid mid without a sniper rifle. It provides essential coverage of mid doors, catwalk, CT spawn, and other key areas. Always be wary of potential attacks from the lower tunnel.

Site B:

  • Long range: Hold behind the box on the platform with an AWP or AUG.
  • Close range: Defend using an SMG or rifle.

Fun Facts About Dust 2

  1. In earlier CS versions, graffiti near the bomb site featured the word "Goose," a reference to Counter-Strike co-creator Minh "Gooseman" Le. This inspired the community nickname "Goose" for the position. In CS 2, the graffiti was replaced with an image of a real goose saying “Freeman was here” in Arabic, referencing the physicist Gordon Freeman.
  2. In the Terrorist spawn area, a mural depicted a Terrorist holding two AWP in cs2. This referenced a legendary Fnatic vs. EnVyUs match where Fnatic used four AWPs on mid and secured kills. This graffiti has been removed in CS 2.
  3. The map contains many Arabic inscriptions. For example, the crates at the bomb sites have the word “الفواكه” (“fruits”)
