The IEM Cologne Major playoffs are now live in the LANXESS Arena. Aurora cruised past BetBoom with a clean 2-0 win, while FURIA bounced back after dropping the first map against 9z to reach the semi-finals. Both teams are in great form, and their next matchup promises plenty of action. Keep reading for the full breakdown.
Aurora booked their first Major semi-final with a convincing 2-0 win over BetBoom, taking Nuke 13-6 before closing Anubis 13-9. While BetBoom showed some resistance on the second map, Aurora controlled most of the series through superior firepower and confident mid-round decisions.
The biggest contributors are easy to spot:
Ali “Wicadia” Haydar Yalçın delivered the highest rating of the match, combining sharp aim with several key rounds on Nuke that helped Aurora build early momentum. Ismailcan “XANTARES” Dörtkardeş remained the team's primary star, leading the server in kills and posting a 1.78 rating on Nuke alone as BetBoom struggled to contain him on the T side.
Özgür “woxic” Eker completed a dominant trio, giving Aurora consistent AWP impact throughout both maps. With three players finishing above a 1.45 rating, Aurora rarely looked under pressure and consistently found the opening duels needed to keep BetBoom on the back foot.
BetBoom’s Cologne run came to an end in the quarter-finals, but reaching the LANXESS stage was already a strong achievement for a team that started its campaign in Stage 1. They exceeded most expectations and proved they could compete deep into the tournament.
Against Aurora, however, the gap in firepower was clear. Daniil “d1Ledez” Kustov led BetBoom with a 1.01 rating, while Kirill “Magnojez” Rodnov posted a 0.99. Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov delivered several key rounds on Nuke, but his difficult start on Anubis left BetBoom chasing the game.
FURIA had to work much harder than Aurora to secure their semi-final spot. Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo’s squad recovered from an 8-13 loss on Dust2 and turned the series around with wins on Mirage (13-9) and Overpass (13-6).
Dust2 belonged to 9z early. They raced to a 9-3 lead at halftime and held off a late comeback attempt, with Maximiliano “max” Gonzalez sealing the map through a crucial 1v2 clutch.
The turning point came on Mirage, where Yuri “yuurih” Santos opened the map with a huge 1v4 clutch. Supported by Danil “molodoy” Golubenko’s 1v3 later in the game, FURIA finally found their footing and never looked back.
FURIA’s top performers were:
For 9z, the loss brought an end to an impressive Cologne campaign. Luciano “luchov” Herrera led the team with a 1.04 rating and a 39-45 K/D, while max finished at 1.02. Matias “HUASOPEEK” Ibañez Hernandez topped the server for 9z in kills at 44-43, but FURIA’s stronger team play in the final two maps proved decisive.
LANXESS Arena is set for a high-stakes semi-final between two teams arriving in very different fashion. Aurora cruised through BetBoom with dominant individual performances, while FURIA had to battle back from a map deficit against 9z.
The June 20 clash will decide who reaches the Cologne Major grand final. Aurora are chasing the biggest result in the organization's history, while FURIA are looking to build on their first Major semi-final appearance in years.
