In CS2, footsteps are a key source of information. Holding Shift lets you move silently, giving you a huge advantage — for example, when taking mid control on Mirage.
Silent positioning: You don’t reveal your approach.
Element of surprise: Enemies won’t expect a silent push.
Better fakes: Your sound won’t give away the plan.
Clutches: One loud step can cost you the round.
Movement control: Easier to walk on edges, ledges, and boxes.
When speed matters (entry, timing plays).
When you’ve been spotted.
When your team is already pushing — stealth won’t help.
Use Shift up to the moment of entry.
Combine it with crouch (Ctrl) for extra stealth.
Even with Shift, you can make noise — be careful with surfaces.
Summary:
Shift is a simple but powerful tool. Silence often wins rounds — learn to use it to your advantage.
