Nuke - a popular competitive map in CS2: map features and gameplay tactics

Nuke is a map based on the scenario of planting a bomb. The action takes place at a nuclear power plant called Cedar Creek, located in the United States.

The plant has two levels (A and B). Level B contains the control rods, and beneath them is water that flows into a nearby river, used to cool the rods. The “T” team must attempt to capture one of the points and plant the bomb to cause a major disaster.

The battles between the counter-terrorists and the terrorists take place both in street conditions and inside the building, including areas for planting bombs. Nuke is widely popular among players due to its balanced gameplay. It regularly appears in the map pool of major CS2 tournaments.

Main points on the Nuke map

The A and B bomb sites are the main points on this map. Players can reach the A site through the ladder, the street, or the shack. To get to the B site, there are several paths: the aquarium, the double doors in the tunnel, the ventilation system, and the ramp.

In addition, there are several other important points on the map. These include:

  1. Ventilation: Players can quickly move between different areas of the map through the ventilation shaft.
  2. Outside: The open area outside the building plays a key role in the attacking team's tactics.
  3. Heaven: A point on the upper floor that provides a great view of most areas on the Nuke map.

Tactics for the "T" team

The starting round often begins with players heading toward the ramp or moving outside. Experienced eSports players recommend using Berettas or Deagle if heading to the ramp. For those going outside, TEC-9 and CZ75 pistols are suitable for close-range combat, while the Deagle works better for long-range attacks. It's strongly recommended to use a grenade and throw it in the tunnel.

In regular rounds, it is better to head towards the ramp, armed with the P90 in cs2. The counter-terrorists often position themselves behind the corner box or at the entrance to the B site, so you should consider that.

You can also attempt to slip into the ventilation, but this carries certain risks, and the enemy may take you out with a deadly shot or deplete your HP significantly. To avoid this, it's advisable to use smoke grenades.

When choosing to go outside, it's better to make your way behind the boxes towards the B site or use the ladder to get to the A site. If you have enough time, you might try sneaking through the ramp from the counter-terrorist side. The counter-terrorists likely won’t expect such boldness, and they rarely set up ambushes at the spawn, which makes this strategy easier to execute.

It’s better to attack the A site from multiple angles. If you’re stuck in one spot, your teammate at another position can likely break through the defense. To help with the breach, it's also recommended to use grenades.

Tactics for counter-terrorists

In the pistol round, you can position yourself at the shack or crane, but to succeed, you need a good pistol. One team member should head outside and position themselves in the tunnel or at the observation point to signal the team if danger arises.

You can set an ambush at the ramp by hiding behind the corner box. Once the enemies reach the B site, you can attack them from behind. To increase the chances of success, make sure to take armor and stock up on grenades.

At the A site, you can hide behind the door, at the shack, or near the second ventilation system or on the boxes by the shack. From behind the boxes, you can effectively cover the street entrance and the door. If all the enemies move outside, you can head to the hall and use the ladder to go up to the barrel and start firing. To counter opponents trying to enter the ventilation, use molotovs.

For effective team play, it’s crucial to have a sniper on the counter-terrorist team. The player with the AWP should ideally be positioned in the garage, between the A site entrance and the barrel, or at the observation point near the barrel.

Interesting facts

  1. All the cover on the bomb sites is now made using containers filled with nuclear waste. In previous versions of the map, classic boxes were used for this.
  2. There is a dedicated Nuke skin collection that includes 9 themed skins cs2 for firearms, as well as interesting models for knives and in-game gloves.
  3. After the map update, players can interact with ventilation covers. They can be opened and closed to block or restore vision. Like before, they can also be destroyed with shots or knife hits.
  4. On the Nuke map in Counter-Strike 2, there is a car at the counter-terrorist spawn that plays a song from Left 4 Dead in the car's interior.
