Map Inferno in CS 2: Competitive Mode Overview and Game Tactics

Fans of Counter-Strike 2 admire the Inferno map for its engaging layout and thrilling gameplay. Set in a small Italian village, it features expanded pathways for seamless player movement and a host of thematic elements, such as crates and a quaint fountain.

The objectives on Inferno remain standard for competitive maps. The “T” team must plant the bomb to destroy weapons caches, while the counter-terrorists aim to prevent this. Most skirmishes occur in the middle of the map and on the bomb sites.

Key Areas on Inferno

The main focus points on Inferno are Sites A and B, designated for bomb planting. However, other significant areas also play pivotal roles:

  1. Pit: Located to the left of the “T” spawn, leading to the main mid area.
  2. Banana: The path to Site B. Controlling Banana is crucial for success in a round.
  3. Short and Long: Routes leading to Site A.
  4. Arch and Library: Pathways from the CT spawn to Site A.

T-Side Tactics

The golden rule for attackers: “Never let the enemy control Banana.” Even if your plan involves pushing Site A, using molotovs and smoke grenades on the barrels at Banana early in the round is vital. This denies the counter-terrorists key information and prevents them from rotating quickly to Site A.

Approaching Site B

Rushing is not advised. Defenders often use molotovs and grenades to block early approaches. A well-coordinated tactic is necessary to minimize player losses.

For a reliable Banana control strategy, act on mid or late timings, deploying utility on the barrels. Early in the round, focus on controlling mid and apartments instead.

Pro-Level Strategy

Professional cs2 players often favor a split push strategy for Site B. Two players control Banana while the remaining three push mid, secure Long, and approach B through Arch. With synchronized actions, defenders become disoriented and are pinched from both sides. Smokes on Short and deep Long can facilitate this push effectively.

A direct Banana-only push to B requires advanced utility usage:

  • Smoke grenades for Short and Coffins.
  • Molotovs for Triple and Dark.
Mastery of these throws is essential for a successful push.

CT-Side Tactics

Inferno’s simplicity lies in its single-route access to each site. Maintaining effective control over these routes ensures success. Proper positioning and holding power are critical.

Controlling Banana

Send two or three players early in the round to secure Banana with molotovs and grenades. Once controlled, two players can rotate to Site A, leaving one to hold B. If attackers appear, this lone player should deploy incendiary grenades and retreat to Side, awaiting backup.

Site A Defense

When attackers focus on Site A, four defenders should hold the site. This makes it difficult for the opposition to breach, let alone plant the bomb.

On Inferno, retaking lost positions is challenging. Losing control of Site A can be catastrophic. Snipers are especially effective here, as the map offers excellent vantage points for an AWP in cs2. A skilled sniper can hold Banana, peek Mid, and defend Long effectively. Teams should invest in at least one sniper rifle to counter attackers and maintain positional advantage.

Interesting Facts

  1. Since Counter-Strike 1.6, Inferno has seen few changes. Developers only improved textures and swapped Sites A and B.
  2. A music track, Carcelera — Reflejo Andaluz, plays at the “T” spawn.
  3. Chickens roam the map, but the original chicken coop is gone in newer versions. It’s unclear how they got there, as chickens can’t fly.
  4. Earlier map versions featured bells at the “T” spawn that rang when shot. Later, they were replaced with chalk drawings. CS2 brought the original bells back.
  5. There used to be a tic-tac-toe game at the “T” spawn. Players could shoot to mark spots, but this feature has been removed in CS2.
