Despite initial expectations, Swedish player Max “maxster” Jansson will not compete for Ninjas in Pyjamas in 2025. The organization confirmed that the 20-year-old player has been benched by mutual consent and is no longer part of the team’s plans for the upcoming year.
Two days later, Maxster stated that he was feeling much better, but the organization opted not to rush his return to action. Originally slated to rejoin the team in 2025, both parties are now working on an exit strategy to conclude their partnership.
Maxster is a graduate of the Young Ninjas academy, where he played from March 2022 to March 2024 before being promoted to the main roster. His time in the primary lineup, however, proved challenging. Ninjas in Pyjamas struggled with roster instability and failed to advance beyond the group stages of ESL Pro League Seasons 19 and 20, as well as BLAST Premier Fall Groups. Nonetheless, Maxster contributed to the team's success, including a notable second-place finish at the YaLLa Compass tournament.
In October, Maxster was placed on the injured list ahead of Elisa Masters Espoo, where NIP faced an early exit after losses to B8 and JANO.
During Maxster’s absence, Jacob “jocab” Nerheden, a player from the Young Ninjas academy, stepped in. Jocab participated in the Elisa Masters, the Thunderpick World Championship, and Svenska Cuppen, where NIP reached the grand final but lost to Metizport. He also played at the YaLLa Compass Fall event.
Later, Ninjas in Pyjamas confirmed that Jocab would remain in the active lineup for the Perfect World Shanghai Major RMR. The future of Maxster within the team remains uncertain.
